Ollantaytambo is "The last Living Inca Town" it is the place where you can see everyday memories of the Great Inca Empire. The streets still run the clear waters of the ancient Inca aqueduct.

The town of Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley of the Incas is located in the Andes Mountains; it’s a 1-½ hour from Cusco. Ollantaytambo is located at an altitude of 9,160 feet or 2,792 meters above sea level.

Ollantaytambo and the surrounding valley have a relatively warm climate and fertile soil, creating a favorable combination for agriculture. It was the majestic village of Ollantaytambo who helped provide food for the development of the Inca Empire.

This town was built by the Incas to be the strongest fortress in the entire Inca Empire. It was built in a deep valley between inaccessible rocks and therefore could be easily defended by a few men against a large number of enemies. Ollantaytambo Pueblo was the site of the only defeat of the Spanish by the Inca defenders. The Incas dug big holes throughout the approach to Ollantaytambo and flooded the valley when the Spaniards came on horseback. The horses and men fell into these pits.

Ollantaytambo village is full of history and magic that will allow you to fully enjoy the greatness of the Inca Empire, nature and adventure as main ingredients in your experience, from quiet walks or horseback riding to routes for mountain biking and rafting.

All in Ollantaytambo, make it the ideal place to enjoy the beauty and history of the Andes.
