Intiwatana is on the hillside above the Ollantaytambo fortress. From this point you have an amazing view of the town of Ollantaytambo and of the valley in three directions.
To reach Intiwatana from the Plaza de Armas, take Calle Principal toward the fortress. Follow the road left past the entrance to the fortress. Minutes later a small concrete football field and stone bull fighting ring will be on the left.
On the right, directly across from the car entrance to the stadium, a path leads up the hillside. Follow this path, as it parallels the road. Upon reaching the stone terraces, follow the trail steeply uphill toward the outer wall of the fortress. Climb the short and steep switchbacks up to an opening in the wall. From here, follow the well-traveled path away from the fortress wall. The trail will switchback above the fortress and up to the Intiwatana ruins. The ruins are about 20 minutes from the fortress. On the ridge just above Intiwatana there is a wooden cross.
